We offer multiple peer support group options to our clients … Options are Empowering!
Addiction Recovery Options are Important
A WISE Retreat provides more than just a safe home-like environment for our clients. And we provide even more than a qualified and empathetic, compassionate and caring staff.
From the bedroom and décor in which you feel most comfortable – to an individualized addiction treatment plan tailored to your unique needs – to recovery nutrition and the food you like to help prepare and eat during the week – we give options and choices to our clients.
We believe it is critical to provide our clients choices for the ongoing self-help meetings they would like to attend.
Self Help Support Group Meetings and Addiction Recovery
Attending self-help meetings ongoing is a huge investment of time and effort. And more – long-term success in overcoming addictions may well depend on an individual’s willingness to attend self-help meetings after leaving our residential rehab treatment.
But – which self-help meetings are the right choice for you?
A WISE Retreat understands that no two people are alike. And we know that what may work for some individuals – may not work for others. That is why we offer multiple addiction recovery peer support group options to our clients. Options are Empowering!
Recovery Self-help Peer Support Groups
Taking charge of your life after years of being enslaved to addiction begins with making the right choices. Wise choices are based on facts, knowledge and discernment.
At A Wise Retreat, we educate our clients on the various peer support meetings available.
12 Step Groups – AA and NA
AA has been around since the early 1930’s and has helped hundreds of thousands of people in recovery. AA and NA are based on their 12 step traditions and are faith based. But these groups are not for everyone.
Twelve-step AA and NA programs generally emphasize the recovering individual’s powerlessness over alcohol, other substances, or behaviors. And promote the need to rely on a higher power for assistance in overcoming addiction.
A WISE Retreat clients go to three AA meetings a week. But we don’t stop there!
Alternative Addiction Recovery Support Groups
Alternatives to 12 Step addiction recovery reject a view of ‘helplessness’ regarding addiction.
Instead, alternative peer support addiction recovery groups see individuals as having adequate power within themselves to overcome addictions.
This view is evident in the language of alternative addiction self-help organizations. Phrases such as “empowering our sober selves,” “saving our selves,” and “self-management and recovery” are emphasized.
LifeRing Recovery and SMART Recovery
LifeRing Secular Recovery is an organization of people who share practical experiences and sobriety support. LifeRing believes you DO have the power to overcome your addiction. LifeRing is a non-12 step program. It is is not faith based.

SMART Recovery believes that everyone finds their own path to recovery and promotes self-empowerment at meetings. SMART Recovery sponsors are available at face-to-face meetings around the world; and in daily online meetings.
